LEGISLATIVE UPDATES
The Laken Riley Act was officially signed into law.
After passing the Senate and the House, on January 29th President Trump signed this bill into law. The Laken Riley Act “requires the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to detain certain non-U.S. nationals (aliens under federal law) who have been arrested for burglary, theft, larceny, or shoplifting… [and] authorizes states to sue the federal government for decisions or alleged failures related to immigration enforcement.”
The border is closing, the illegal aliens are being deported, and America is becoming safer.
THIS WEEK IN WASHINGTON
- H.R.471 To establish requirements for managing forests on federal land. The bill addressed reducing wildfire threats, expediting the review of certain forest management projects, and implementing forest management projects and other activities.
Status: Passed
Lauren was proud to vote ‘Yay’ on this bill, along with all 216 Republicans present at time of vote, and 48 Democrats.
SPOTLIGHT ON COLORADO
The students of Cresthill Middle School in Highlands Ranch were unhappy with the quality of their water fountains and took the initiative to raise money for filtered refillable water stations. The school’s principal applauded the students for advocating for themselves in a very mature way. The students determined if they each raised $100, it would cover the cost of several new water stations, but the collection exceeded their expectations!
